From reading this old telephone interview from 21 Mar 2000 that starts with a short letter, it appears that Sandra Alford Morgan is the daughter of Clarence Alford, himself the son of Lester Cleveland Alford and Minnie Lane. (Travis Hardin) -------- Hello, I have been screaming thru the house [after discovering your Lane research]. I am so excitied. My mother and daddy have passed on and also all the sons of Cleveland Alford and Minnie Lane. Mrs.Doris Alford is living with her daughter.I grow up in the house where Cleveland and Minnie raised three sons. Before my father passed on,he had a picture reproduced of Minnie, Loxie and Kate Noah.He gave me the original, because we would sit and talk of those times.I have been doing the genalogy for years.I would be honored to have a picture of my great-grandmother and any others you have.I will get copies to you. I would be very honored to give you the info on my part of the family. Thank you Sandra Alford Morgan 620 Rifle Range Rd. Glencoe,Al.35905 256-494-0350 Minnie died on old Cleveland homestead--in Glencoe. Sandy grew up Glencoe. Also Clarence--Old Rabbittown Road. Her grandfather was Cleveland b. 1893--Sandra moved in with them when she was 4 or 5 w/moth and Dad. No power, water, etc. Her grandfather burned the house down because he didn't like the "new confounded contaption." When Grandaddy was getting old his 3 boys added a bath to his house. Then they bulit a 1 room simple bath. Only plumbing was a line to the pump. One day he slit his throat. Lived 10 more years! He married Emma a few years after Minnie died. Minnie died of pneumonia. Macon Lane: Sandra's dad and mother both said Macon, as he was dying, called grandkids etc. to his house, a one room shack. He told family he was going to die. He asked them to leave and come back in 3 days. They looked in woods and he was sitting underneath a tree dead. Macon lived in Hokes Bluff on the old Alford property at Alford Bend. He humted in the woods for their food. Macon always went out with a black rounded hat. That's what he had on when he died. Hair was real long, he kept it in a braid. Clarence always said "Walk proud and be Indian" Sandra's mother was Creek. Sandra was the first one in the family to move out of Alabama. We had a bible with Lane , Alford, and Johnson info, but when Clarence, her dad, died, the bible came up missing. Sandy's mom said of Minnie's brother, "That's the one that had to go to Texas because he got accused of stealing a horse. Clarence wouldn't let the family go to the store and buy anything they could grow or make. A tendency exists to have brain anurisms right above nose in Lane/Alford family. Begins with nosebleeds. [Postscript by Travis Hardin: The death certificate of Macon Lane says he died in Gadsden of bronchial pneumonia. Physician J. L. Sheppard says he died at 10 a.m. on April 1, and implied he witnessed it. Because I don't know the facts, I won't judge what the true account is.] Last edited 2013 Mar 25. filename: c:\0myfiles\GEN\LANE-JOH\Interview w Sandra Alford 21 Mar 00.txt C:\0myfiles\DVD-white-working\lane\text-lane-content\Interview-w-Sandra-Alford-21Mar00.txt
